Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will the dual USB-C ports charge a laptop or MacBook?

No. While this receptacle features two modern USB Type-C physical ports, the electrical output provides standard 5V DC charging with 3.6A shared total output. It does not support the high-voltage Power Delivery protocols required to charge laptops. It is better suited to smartphones, earbuds, and standard tablets.

Can I install this dual USB-C outlet near a kitchen sink?

No. This is a standard receptacle designed strictly for dry indoor locations and it does not provide GFCI protection. Receptacles near kitchen sinks, bathroom vanities, and similar NEC-covered locations should use a GFCI or USB GFCI model instead of this standard non-GFCI outlet.

How does the 3.6A shared output work with two Type-C devices?

The outlet provides a total maximum output of 3.6A at 5V DC across both USB-C ports. If one device is connected, it can draw up to its normal single-port rate. If two devices are connected at the same time, the internal charging system distributes the 3.6A between both Type-C ports. Actual charging speed depends on each device’s charging behavior.

Why choose a dual USB-C outlet instead of a hybrid USB A/C outlet?

A dual USB-C outlet is a future-forward choice for projects that want to move away from legacy USB-A charging. It is a practical option for new apartments, hotel renovations, and modern interiors where occupants increasingly carry USB-C to USB-C cables.

Are the standard AC slots tamper-resistant?

Yes. The standard 15A NEMA 5-15R AC slots include built-in tamper-resistant shutters that block foreign object insertion. NEC 406.12 requires tamper-resistant construction for covered 15A and 20A nonlocking receptacles in locations such as dwelling units, multi-family residences, hotel guest rooms, and child care facilities.

Does replacing a standard outlet with this dual USB-C receptacle require a new breaker?

No new breaker is required when replacing a standard 15A receptacle on a correctly matched existing circuit. This device installs in a standard single-gang wall box and uses the same 125V AC branch-circuit wiring, although installers should still confirm box space for the device body and conductors.

Is this model weather-resistant?

No. This product is not a WR model and is intended for indoor dry-location use only. It should not be used as an outdoor or wet-location receptacle.

Can two USB-C devices be charged at the same time?

Yes. This model is designed for simultaneous charging through two USB-C ports from the same wall location. The available charging current is shared between the ports up to the 3.6A total output.

5-Step Quick Wiring Guide

Follow standard U.S. wiring protocols. Always verify power is off before installation.

  1. Power Off & Verify: Turn off the breaker and verify the box is de-energized with a voltage tester.
  2. Identify Conductors: Locate the Black (Hot), White (Neutral), and Bare/Green (Ground) wires.
  3. Connect Ground: Secure the bare copper or green wire to the Green grounding terminal.
  4. Connect Neutral & Hot: Connect the White wire to the Silver terminal, and the Black wire to the Brass terminal.
