Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I install this 20A dual USB-C receptacle on a standard 15A circuit?

No. NEC 210.21(B)(3) does not permit a 20A receptacle to be used on a 15A branch circuit. Because this device uses a NEMA 5-20R configuration, it must be installed on a correctly matched 20A branch circuit.

Will the dual USB-C ports fast-charge a laptop in a conference room?

No. While this receptacle includes two USB-C physical ports, the electrical output is limited to standard 5V DC charging with 3.6A shared total output. It does not support laptop-class Power Delivery. Users should plug laptop AC adapters into the NEMA 5-20R receptacle slots and use the USB-C ports for phones and tablets.

Does this 20A dual USB-C outlet include GFCI protection for wet areas?

No. This is a standard receptacle designed for dry indoor locations and it does not provide GFCI protection. Installations near breakroom sinks, kitchen sinks, or other NEC-covered wet or damp locations should use a GFCI or USB GFCI model instead of this standard non-GFCI outlet.

What does a 3.6A shared output mean for a dual Type-C commercial outlet?

The outlet provides a total maximum output of 3.6A at 5V DC across both USB-C ports. A single connected phone can draw up to its normal single-port rate. If two devices are connected at the same time, the charging current is shared between both ports up to the 3.6A total. Actual charging speed depends on each device’s charging behavior.

Are tamper-resistant shutters required on this 20A dual USB-C receptacle?

Yes, in NEC-covered locations. Tamper-resistant construction is required for covered 15A and 20A nonlocking receptacles in locations such as dwelling units, hotel guest rooms, child care facilities, and other covered public-access settings. This model includes tamper-resistant shutters on the AC receptacle slots.

Does this USB receptacle require a special electrical box?

No special box type is required by default, but installers should confirm that the wall box has enough space for the device body and conductors. This receptacle installs in a standard single-gang wall box and uses standard 125V AC branch-circuit wiring. Because a 20A circuit typically uses heavier conductors, extra box volume may be helpful in practice.

Why install pure dual USB-C instead of hybrid USB A/C in new commercial builds?

Pure dual USB-C is a future-forward strategy for commercial real estate. It aligns the wall outlet with the ongoing shift toward Type-C charging cables and avoids locking new installations into legacy USB-A ports that may age out sooner.

Is this model weather-resistant?

No. This product is not a WR model and is intended for indoor dry-location use only. It should not be used as an outdoor or wet-location receptacle.

  2. Identify Conductors: Locate the Black (Hot), White (Neutral), and Bare/Green (Ground) wires.
  3. Connect Ground: Secure the bare copper or green wire to the Green grounding terminal.
  4. Connect Neutral & Hot: Connect the White wire to the Silver terminal, and the Black wire to the Brass terminal.
  5. Mount & Test: Fold wires neatly into the box, mount the receptacle, install the wall plate, and restore power to test.
