15A Single Pole Toggle Switch for One-Location Lighting Control

The TM-1 is a 15A 125V single pole toggle switch for basic on/off control from one wall location. It is UL/cUL listed under UL file number E327438, covered by UL 20, and built for standard lighting-control replacement work where the project does not require a 3-way, 4-way, dimmer, timer, smart, or wet-location device.

Who Should Use This Model

  • Contractors replacing standard toggle switches in apartment, residential, or light commercial projects
  • Property maintenance teams standardizing 15A single pole switches across multiple units
  • Distributors stocking seven common switch colors for retrofit and MRO demand
  • Project buyers who need a 15A 125V UL/cUL listed toggle switch with side wire, back wire, and push-in wiring options

When to Choose a Different Model

  • Choose 15A 3-Way Toggle Switch when the same light must be controlled from two locations.
  • Choose a dimmer or smart switch when the project needs brightness control, scheduling, sensing, or app-based operation.
  • Choose Standard Toggle Wallplates at the same time if the order needs a finished switch-and-cover combination.
  • For broader sourcing checks, review our UL/cUL certification and electrical sourcing risk guide before placing repeated device orders.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the TM-1 15A single pole toggle switch used for?

The TM-1 is used for basic on/off control of one light or one load from one wall location. It is a standard single pole toggle switch, so it should not be specified for 3-way, 4-way, dimming, timer, smart-control, or wet-location applications unless a different device is selected.

Is this switch the same as a 3-way toggle switch?

No. A single pole switch controls a load from one location, while a 3-way switch is used when the same load is controlled from two locations. Buyers should check the existing wiring layout before ordering, because these switch types are not interchangeable in the device schedule.

Does a standard single pole toggle switch need a neutral wire?

A basic mechanical single pole toggle switch typically does not terminate the neutral on the switch itself. It opens and closes the hot conductor feeding the load. If neutral wires are present as a splice in the box, keep them tied together unless the product instructions or a different device type requires otherwise.

Can a 15A single pole switch be used on a 20A lighting circuit?

It may be acceptable in many lighting layouts when the controlled load stays within the switch rating, but this should not be treated as a blanket rule for every project. Buyers should verify the load type, branch-circuit design, adopted NEC edition, and AHJ interpretation before specifying a 15A switch on a 20A circuit.

What should buyers confirm before ordering TM-1 in bulk?

Before bulk ordering, confirm the voltage rating, UL/cUL file number, applicable switch standard, terminal style, grounding method, color schedule, wall plate requirement, and packaging format. These details matter because a basic toggle switch can look correct in photos but still fail a project requirement after receiving inspection or installation review.

Is TM-1 suitable for smart lighting, dimming, or timer control?

No. TM-1 should be treated as a standard mechanical toggle switch for simple on/off control unless product documentation states otherwise. For dimming, scheduling, occupancy sensing, or app-based control, buyers should select the correct dimmer, timer, sensor, or smart switch rated for the intended load.

Which color options are available for this 15A toggle switch?

TM-1 is available in White, Black, Ivory, Almond, Grey, Brown, and Graphite. For retrofit programs, color matching is often more than a design issue. Mixed switch colors can create visible inconsistency across units, so buyers should confirm the project color schedule before releasing a bulk order.

Is this switch suitable for wet or outdoor locations?

Do not specify TM-1 for wet or outdoor locations unless the complete installation, enclosure, cover, and product listing support that use. A standard toggle switch page should not be read as a weather-resistant claim. For outdoor or damp-location work, confirm the device rating and cover requirements with the project documents.

5-Step Quick Wiring Guide

For standard single pole switches only. Always turn off power and verify the box is de-energized before installation.

  1. Power Off & Verify: Turn off the breaker and confirm the switch box is de-energized with a voltage tester or multimeter.
  2. Identify Line and Load: Remove the wall plate and old switch, then identify the incoming hot conductor and the switched-load conductor going to the light or load.
  3. Prepare and Label Wires: Label the conductors if needed, then strip the wire ends to the length required by the new switch.
  4. Connect Hot, Load, and Ground: Connect the incoming hot wire to one brass or dark terminal, the switched-load wire to the other brass or dark terminal, and the bare copper or green wire to the Green grounding terminal.
  5. Mount & Test: Keep any neutral splice tied together unless the device instructions require otherwise, fold wires neatly into the box, mount the switch, install the wall plate, restore power, and test the connected load.
